The early years of 1980s were the opportune time for the growing computer industry in the Philippines. Various companies were beginning to embrace the electronic data processing technology thereby creating a big demand for a computer literate workforce. STI was founded with a mission to satisfy this demand by providing quality computer education to as many Filipinos as possible.
STI started operating in August of 1983 with COBOL programming as its first major course. From then on, STI implemented full-scale expansion, offering more courses and setting up more schools nationwide. Today, STI has over 100 campuses strategically located across the Philippines, making its mark as one of the largest education network in the country.
Throughout its more than 20 years of providing ICT and ICT-enhanced education, STI has developed a comprehensive portfolio of bachelor, diploma, and certificate programs in the field of Information and Communications Technology, Engineering, Business and Management, Health Services, and Education, which also came to include Preschool and Basic Education.
STI Basic Education’s raison d’etre is to provide quality education for the elementary and high school levels through ICT-enhanced learning. With information and communication technologies becoming more embedded and ubiquitous in the environment around children, it is highly likely that it will continue to be a significant presence in their learning environments throughout their schooling and into their adult lives. In order to be full and capable participants in their environments, STI believes it is important that children begin to develop “technological literacy” and to be provided opportunities to use ICT to support their learning.
STI Grade School began its operations in June 1999 with the opening of the first school along Abel Nosce Street in BF Resort Village, Las Piñas City. The opening of the first High School in a separate campus along Victor Barrios Street soon followed in June 2000. The growing recognition of the many different ways ICT contributes to, and enriches the teaching and learning environments resulted to the establishment of other branches. At present, STI Grade School and High School can be found in major cities in the metropolis and in key provinces.
STI Grade School and High School optimize the use of technology for instructional and administrative tasks and provide for the students’ intellectual, emotional, and technological growth through meaningful learning experiences. Most importantly, the STI network of Grade Schools and High Schools across the country use standardized curriculum and courseware meticulously prepared by a core group of education specialists from the STI Education Services Group. Combined with continued course innovations and strong faculty and student programs, the centralized preparation of curriculum and courseware ensures that quality education is provided to all of our students regardless of school location.
